Young Women at Work
India has a $5 trillion economy goal to achieve by 2025. Women, who make up for more than 50 per cent of India’s population, are poised to be a big part of this success story. We need to see more young women at work. But that’s what they are right now. Poised. According to an economic survey conducted in India in April 2020, a mere 23.4 is the rate of women’s participation in the labour force.
Approximately 60 per cent of women in the age group of 15-59 are still not moving out of the house to work. If India is to achieve its 2025 goal, the country is going to have to have to see more young women at work very soon.
The good news is that Map of Me has a keen focus on young women at work or going to work, becoming entrepreneurs and participating in the Indian work force. Map of me has tracked the stories of many young women at work, either on their way to jobs or to their businesses. Why should we see more young women at work? Research has shown that when women go to work, everyone in their families and communities benefit and those benefits are far reaching.
Map of Me features stories of many young women at work, out of the house, in non-traditional work roles and as successful entrepreneurs to inspire a new generation of young women to step out of their homes and start a new journey as entrepreneurs.
